PANORAMIC ROOF

All XJ models feature a dramatic full-width glass roof, sweeping back from the top of the windscreen to the front of the rear seating area. Unlike conventional sunroofs, it has a front section that opens upwards and outwards, increasing the sense of space within the cabin and ensuring there is no loss of headroom. The tinted glass has a reflective coating to prevent the cabin from becoming too hot, and there are twin electric blinds for extra privacy.

BI-FUNCTION HID XENON HEADLAMPS

Bi-function HID Xenon headlamps operate automatically when it starts to get dark. The headlamp wipers are set flush into the front bumper so they do not disrupt the XJ's elegant lines. In addition, the headlamps react to speed and steering, to cast a deeper beam on corners, and provide extra light for low-speed manoeuvres, such as parking. An optional intelligent high beam feature selects low beam when it detects oncoming vehicles and returns to full beam when the traffic has passed.

FRONT AND REAR PARKING AID WITH VISUAL INDICATOR

Ultrasonic sensors in the bumpers detect objects and the driver receives an audible warning. At the same time, the screen in the centre console shows where the object is in relation to the car. As an optional extra, the XJ can be fitted with a rear-facing video camera, which sends pictures of what is behind the car to the screen and provides steering guidance to help the driver reverse into a space.

DISTINCTIVE REAR LIGHTS

The XJ's rear lights follow the contours of the boot down toward the bumper, their triangular shape subtly echoing the distinctive design of previous XJ models. Each lamp unit contains 57 LEDs, which are arranged in three blades and reach full brightness more quickly than conventional bulbs when the brakes are applied.

ADJUSTABLE BOOT LID

The electronic boot lid is opened with a single press on the remote key, or by using a switch either inside the car or on the bumper. There is another switch inside the lid for closing it. In addition, the lid can be set to open to a particular height.

CHROME VENTS

Chrome power vents are set into each wing, behind the front wheel. Designed to allow heat out of the engine bay, they also have a decorative appeal and feature a sculpted 'ingot' with the Jaguar name. A 'SUPERCHARGED' motif is also included on the XJ Portfolio powered by Jaguar’s V8 346kW supercharged engine, while the Supersport features a 'SUPERSPORT' motif.

EYE-CATCHING WHEELS

There is a choice of ten designs for the XJ's alloy wheels, which are available in 18", 19" or 20". Wider wheels and tyres are fitted at the rear, to optimise grip and accentuate the car’s forward dynamic.

INTAGLIO

A crafted ingot beneath the windscreen, bearing either a Jaguar insignia or personalised inscription. A unique intaglio design is available on the XJ Supersport.

HEATED STEERING WHEEL WITH INTEGRATED CONTROLS

Switches mounted in the steering wheel are used to control the entertainment system and cruise control, and to engage Interactive Voice. For extra comfort on winter mornings the XJ also offers the option of heating in the steering wheel.

DUAL ZONE AND FOUR ZONE CLIMATE CONTROL

Either dual-zone or four-zone climate control with air particle and odour filtration, auto-recirculation, humidity control and automatic window demisting.

JAGUAR SEQUENTIAL SHIFT™

The enhanced XJ six-speed automatic transmission delivers lightning-fast gear changes, optimising performance and fuel efficiency. Shift changes are constantly adapted by the system, to suit the style of the driver, ranging from economical to sporting. Drivers have the option of changing gears manually, with paddles behind the steering wheel.

JAGUARDRIVE SELECTOR™ AND JAGUARDRIVE CONTROL™

The automatic transmission is controlled by the beautifully designed JaguarDrive Selector™, which rises into the driver’s hand once the 'Start' button is pressed. The driver simply turns the selector to engage transmission settings, or to move from Drive to Sport mode. JaguarDrive Control™ offers further driving modes. Dynamic mode offers more responsive acceleration and adds a red hue and gear position indicator to the Virtual Instruments display. Winter mode gives more progressive control in slippery conditions.

ADAPTIVE DYNAMICS

Adaptive Dynamics analyse the XJ's speed, steering and body movements 500 times a second and adjust the suspension with electronic dampers to achieve the ideal balance between comfort and precise handling.

DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL

The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) has two settings. The default setting comes into play as soon as it detects the wheels slipping. The Trac DSC setting, on the other hand, allows some slipping and overspin before it intervenes - this allows for a sportier drive and is also essential with snow chains.

ACTIVE DIFFERENTIAL

On a loose road surface, such as ashphalt, the Active Differential will instantly detect any slipping and vary the power supplied to each wheel to help keep the car as stable as possible. Active Differential is available on the supercharged versions of the XJ Portfolio and XJ Supersport.

AUTOMATIC SPEED LIMITER

XJ drivers are able to choose a maximum speed for the car.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

When Adaptive Cruise Control is fitted, a microwave radar in the front bumper is designed to sense if the vehicle in front slows down, and then use the throttle and brake to maintain a constant time gap. Once the road clears it will take the car back up to the previous speed. The radar also operates a Forward Alert, which gives the driver an audible warning if the traffic ahead slows quickly or another vehicle moves into the same lane as the XJ.

PROTECTIVE BODYSHELL

Because the XJ is built of aluminium and magnesium it is exceptionally rigid.

AIRBAGS AND SAFE SEATING

As well as two front airbags, the XJ has airbags in the outer edges of the seats, together with side curtain airbags that drop down from above the windows to protect occupants in both the front and rear seats. Sensors detect the size and weight of the driver and passenger before the front airbags are deflated to help prevent injury. At the same time, the seatbelts feature 'soft landing' technology, which softens the contact with the airbag. A further safety measure in the seating is the anti-whiplash technology which moves the head restraints forward if there is an accident.

PEDESTRIAN CONTACT SENSING SYSTEM™

The XJ has a sensing system that will raise the bonnet slightly if it detects contact with a pedestrian. This helps to ensure that their head does not hit the hard parts of the engine.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

When the optional Adaptive Cruise Control is switched on, a microwave radar in the XJ's front bumper will sense if the vehicle in front slows down. It will then slow the XJ down to maintain a constant distance, and once the road clears it will take the car back up to the pre-set speed. The radar also operates a Forward Alert, which gives the driver an audible warning if the traffic ahead slows quickly or another vehicle moves into the same lane as the XJ.

ADVANCED BREAKING

All XJ models have anti-lock brakes, which vary the brake pressure to ensure that the wheels do not lock, and the driver can keep the steering under control, during an emergency stop. Additional brake force is produced by Emergency Brake Assist, allowing for shorter stopping distances and improved steering control. Advanced Emergency Brake Assist primes the brakes if the radar within the Adaptive Cruise Control senses an imminent collision.

BLIND SPOT MONITOR

The optional Blind Spot Monitor uses radar sensors to show an amber warning signal in the wing mirror if it detects a vehicle that the driver won’t be able to see, either directly or in the mirrors.

TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING

With the optional Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, the XJ driver can receive an alert message if the pressure in any of the tyres goes down.

SECURITY

Door locks on the XJ are controlled remotely from the key fob, and each door can also be locked or double - locked with a button on the handle. In addition, the doors will lock automatically when the car reaches a pre-set speed, which can be chosen by the driver. The XJ is protected by an alarm and engine immobiliser.
